For the operation of the new generations of trucks, the distribution of AdBlue® is now essential. AS 24 develops its own network and supports transportation professionals.
With nearly 100% of its service stations equipped in France, AS 24 has become the first distribution network of AdBlue® at the pump. Your vehicle fleet can refuel every 50 km.

WHAT IS ADBLUE®?

  • AdBlue® is an aqueous solution composed of 32.5% high purity urea and 67.5% demineralised water that meets ISO 22241 standards. The urea used for AdBlue® is a high purity synthetic product, usually made from natural gas, and used in chemical fertilisers or plastics.
  • Biodegradable, soluble in water and colourless, AdBlue® crystallises at -11°C and decomposes to ammonia starting at 80°C.
  • AdBlue® is a non-hazardous product.
  • AdBlue® is used in Diesel vehicles equipped with SCR technology (Selective Catalytic Reduction). SCR is the name of the exhaust gas processing technology that converts nitrogen oxides (NOx) into water vapour and nitrogen using AdBlue® in a catalyst.
  • AdBlue® is kept in a separate tank than the Diesel.

Why does AdBlue® bear the symbol R?

AdBlue® is a registered trademark owned by the German Automotive Industry Association (VDA), which ensures that product quality standards are respected.

WHAT IS ADBLUE® FOR?

AdBlue® meets the new standards of the manufacturers who have upgraded their exhaust systems in order to comply with the European anti-pollution standard (from Euro IV).

In effect since October 2006, all new trucks built must be equipped with SCR technology and must also use AdBlue®.

HOW DO ADBLUE® THE SCR TECHNOLOGY WORK?

What happens in the engine
Fuel combustion causes NOx (nitrogen oxide), which is a result of the combination of nitrogen and oxygen in high temperature air.
What happens in the exhaust
AdBlue® is injected into the exhaust pipe, located before the SCR catalyst and after the engine.
Heated in the exhaust, AdBlue® decomposes into ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
What happens in the SCR
When the NOx reacts with ammonia inside the catalyst, harmful NOx molecules are transformed into harmless nitrogen (N2) and water (H2O)
The chemical reaction must follow this pattern, AdBlue® and diesel must under no circumstances be mixed beforehand!

AS 24: the first European distribution network of AdBlue® in service stations

AS 24 facilitates your supply of AdBlue®. With the AS 24 network, you have access to:

  • Competitive rates in every country
  • over 1,100 station equipped with AdBlue® in 29 European countries
  • Simplified management: a single invoice for your consumption of Diesel, AdBlue®, Gasoil and Red Diesel.

Advantages of using AS 24

  • Optimisation of the time drivers spend in the station by combining the refuelling of Diesel and AdBlue®.
  • Elimination of the storage constraints encountered with the tank or the IBC and the associated costs.
  • Simplified management and improved transaction control.
  • Quality product at the best price at the pump.
  • AS 24 advantages:

The reference in France: almost 100% of stations equipped, or one station every 50km
3 out of 4 AS 24 stations are equipped in Europe

AdBlue® consumption

AdBlue® consumption is roughly proportional to the distance in kilometres. Other factors, such as the type of driving, the ambient temperature or the type of route, also affect its consumption.

The average use of AdBlue® compared to diesel for trucks is 4 to 5%.

  • For local distribution: about 500L/year
  • For national distribution: about 1,000L/year
  • For international distribution: about 2,000L/year

Recommendations for use

  • AdBlue® is classified as a non-hazardous product: in case of splashing on clothing or skin, the recommendation is to rinse with water.
  • AdBlue® may have a corrosive effect on certain metals: in case of spraying, rinse with water.
  • Do not use any equipment (canisters, jerry cans) that has been used for other fluids to refuel with AdBlue®.

In AS 24 service stations, it is usually impossible to put AdBlue® in the Diesel tank because nozzles are equipped with a key that prevents them from working if the nozzle is not in the vehicle’s AdBlue® tank.

Conversely, it is not possible to put Diesel in the AdBlue® tank because the diameter of the AdBlue® tank is smaller than the diameter of the Diesel nozzle.

The risks of mixing AdBlue® + Diesel

Never mix AdBlue® with water or other substances, especially Diesel.
This mixture is very risky because it can seriously damage the SCR system and result in costly repairs.
